On December 7, 2023, the American television series “My Life with the Walter Boys” made its Netflix debut. The drama about coming of age is based on the same-titled novel by Ali Novak, which was first released on Wattpad in 2014.

Focusing on 15-year-old Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), the show compels her to migrate from her affluent Manhattan existence to live in rural Colorado with her legal guardian and a family of twelve males. Jackie needs to adapt to living with numerous brothers, actively participating in the family ranch work, attending public school, and embracing a new way of life.

Production

Sony Pictures Television and iGeneration Studios are producing ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ following iGeneration Studios’ acquisition of Komixx Entertainment. Alongside showrunner and executive producer Melanie Halsall, Ed Glauser—who served as Netflix’s executive producer for The Kissing Booth film series—joined the production.

The series commenced filming in March 2022 and concluded by September of the same year in Alberta, Canada.

Filming locations for the series included the towns of Crossfield, Cochrane, and Calgary. The production team spread the filming of the show around the province.

Reception

Critics have given the series varying ratings. Based on five reviews, it has a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “My Life with the Walter Boys is a charming coming-of-age story that is sure to appeal to fans of the genre,” is the agreement among critics.
